Natural gas conversion in the Lippe-Weser region

Natural gas customers in Germany are supplied with two different types of gas, L-gas or H-gas. Our region was previously supplied with L-gas. However, L-gas is no longer available, so all natural gas customers will be supplied with H-gas in future.

The natural gas conversion is being implemented in Nordrhein Westfalen, Niedersachsen, Rheinlland Pfalz, Bremen, Hessen and Sachsen Anhalt.

Who is responsible for the natural gas conversion?

According to Section 19a of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG), the respective network operator is responsible for carrying out the natural gas conversion. In the Lippe-Weser region, this is Stadtwerke Rinteln GmbH, Stadtwerke Lippe-Weser Service GmbH & Co. KG, Stadtwerke Bad Salzuflen GmbH, Stadtwerke Oerlinghausen GmbH and Stadtwerke Detmold.

What happens during the conversion?

L and H gas differ in their chemical composition and calorific value. All gas appliances and systems in households, businesses and industry must be adapted to the new H-gas type so that they continue to function reliably and safely.

The natural gas conversion takes place in two steps. Firstly, fitters record all gas appliances in our network area. In the second step, the technical adaptation of the gas appliances is carried out. This means that all customers receive at least two visits from our fitters. There may be a period of up to 1.5 years between the survey and the adaptation.

For around 10 per cent of customers, a quality check of the work is carried out after the survey or adjustment.

What do you need to do?

You do not need to do anything. We will inform the customers concerned, in writing and in good time, about all further steps.

Survey

The fitters we commission will collect all the important appliance data (e.g. CE mark and appliance type) at your premises so that the subsequent adaptation can be optimally planned and prepared.

We will send you a personalised appointment letter approximately three weeks before the survey.

Quality Assurance

After the survey and the fitting, we will carry out a random quality check in approximately ten per cent of cases. We will also inform you of a possible date in writing.

Adaptation

  • For technical adaptation to H-gas, it is usually sufficient to replace individual parts of the appliance, such as the nozzles.
  • Here too, we will send you written notification of the date.
  • There may be a period of up to 1.5 years between the survey and the adaptation.

Conversion to H-gas

From the switchover date, H-gas will flow through the pipelines in our network area for the first time.

  • Here too, we will send you written notification of the date.
  • There may be a period of up to 1.5 years between the survey and the adaptation.
